MCA Process improves bin picking of unpackaged products with Psycle

Specializing in the design and construction of automated processes for the food industry, MCA Process called on Psycle to meet a need for bin picking of unpackaged products. Estelle Le Pape, its President, and Camille Clemont, automation engineer on the project, share their experience:

What did you need to automate?

E. Le Pape: Our customer needed to pick different products from bins and then place them in trays according to a precise pattern. It is a fairly complex Pick & Place operation, but relatively common in ready-meal ranges.

The partnership with Psycle opens up very interesting new possibilities for automating food processes.

What is the role of the Psycle software in this process?

C. Clemont: Its role is to interpret the images taken by the cameras and turn them into positioning information that can be integrated into the real-time calculation of the robot's path.

And what are the advantages of the Psycle solution?

C. Clemont: The Psycle vision software can recognize any product. And it learns very quickly. This allows us to be very responsive to recipe changes.

Beyond the technical arguments, why does the partnership with Psycle make sense?

E. Le Pape: With a technology like vision, which is becoming essential in automation, I think it is important that we have a partner who shares our mindset. Psycle, like MCA Process, listens closely to its customers to support them in developing custom solutions. We also share the desire to innovate and to keep improving industrial processes.
